How image text extraction, translation and summarisation works

hearlog sends your image to Google Gemini, which reads the printed text in its original script and returns it — so you can read it, get a summary in one of five styles, translate it in one click and save it as a note.

This handles the everyday Indian reality of text trapped in images: a Hindi government notice photographed on a phone, a Tamil WhatsApp forward, a screenshot of a circular, or a printed handout. The text comes out in Devanagari, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali or whatever script it was written in — not romanised, not translated unless you ask.

Because the extracted text flows into hearlog's standard flow, you can translate that Hindi notice to English, pull Key Points from a photographed report, or keep a stack of document photos as notes you can search — powered by Google Gemini.

Keep the village notices in one folder and (Pro) ask the whole folder one question — e.g. ‘Which of these notices have a last date this month?’

Image text extraction, translation and summarisation — FAQ

Can I extract Hindi text from a WhatsApp screenshot?

Yes. Upload the screenshot and hearlog reads the printed or typed text in Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil and other Indian scripts, keeping the original script. You can then translate it to English or summarise it. This is a Pro feature, ₹299 a month or $6.99 outside India.

    What image formats are supported?

hearlog accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and HEIC images up to 10MB each. That covers most phone photos, screenshots and pages scanned to an image file, so you usually do not need to convert anything before uploading.

Can it read handwritten text in Indian languages?

We do not promise handwriting. The extractor is built for printed and typed text — notices, screenshots, printed pages and forms. Handwritten notes may come out partly or with errors, so if you try one, check every line against the photo before you rely on it.

Does it work for government documents and notices?

Yes, when they are printed and the photo is clear and in focus. Devanagari and other Indian scripts are supported. You can translate the text to English to share with colleagues who do not read Hindi — but check names, dates and numbers against the original.

Can I summarise text extracted from an image?

Yes. The extracted text goes into the same flow as a recording, with the same five summary styles: Key Points for a quick overview, Detailed for fuller notes, Concise for a short brief, Lecture notes or Meeting notes. You can save the result as a note.

    Is image text extraction free?

No — in the app, image text extraction is a Pro feature: ₹299 a month or ₹2,990 a year ($49 / $6.99 outside India). The free plan covers recording and uploads, 300 minutes a month with no card, plus transcripts, summaries, translation and exports. Pro adds image, PDF and YouTube text.

Can I translate the extracted text to another language?

Yes. After extraction, click Translate and choose from 50+ languages: a Hindi notice can become English, a Tamil forward can become Hindi. The original text and the translation are saved together in one note, so you can always check one against the other.

How accurate is the text extraction?

Results are best for printed text in standard fonts and a well-lit, in-focus photo, and weaker for stylised text, very small print, blurry photos or handwriting. hearlog uses Google Gemini to read the image. Always check the text against the original before using it anywhere official.
