Read that Hindi circular or court judgment as English notes, then ask it questions
No retyping: the whole document as text you can copy, search and translate.
Who it's for
- Lawyers — Get the text of a judgment or notice into the same folder as the client's hearings, to organise and draft from (not legal advice).
- Researchers — Pull the text out of a report or paper and keep Key Points next to your interview notes.
- Students — Turn a PDF of class material — or a judgment, for law students — into notes you can translate and revise from.
Example
A Hindi government circular as a scanned PDF
- You upload
- A clearly scanned 6-page Hindi circular, under 15MB.
- You get
- The text in Devanagari, an English translation and Key Points — saved as one note.
- You ask (Pro)
- "Who does this circular apply to, and from which date?"
- Example answer
- It applies to all Group C and Group D staff in district offices, from 1 November 2026. Leave requests must use the new online form. (Source: Revenue Dept circular, page 2)

Get Pro — ₹2,990/yearHow PDF text extraction, translation and summarisation works
hearlog sends your PDF to Google Gemini, which reads the pages — including clearly scanned ones — and returns the text in its original script — so you can read it, get a summary in one of five styles, translate it in one click and save it as a note.
It handles both kinds of PDF that defeat copy-paste: text-based files where the layout blocks selection, and scanned documents that are really images of pages. A scanned government circular, a legal notice, a regional-language report — the text comes out in Devanagari, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali or the script it was written in. Poor scans, tables and complex layouts can come out with errors, so check those against the original.
Because the extracted text flows into hearlog's standard flow, you can translate a Hindi contract to English, pull Key Points from a long research paper, or keep a client's or course's documents together as notes — powered by Google Gemini.
For a law student: ask the judgment, get the page
- You upload
- A 40-page High Court judgment as a text-based PDF.
- You ask (Pro)
- “What did the court hold on Article 21, and on which page?”
- Example answer
- The court held that delay in deciding the bail application violated the right to a speedy trial, which it treated as part of Article 21 (page 14, para 23). (Source: High Court judgment PDF)
hearlog organises and drafts; it does not give legal advice. Check every holding against the judgment itself.
One client folder: the judgment and the hearings
Keep the judgment PDF and your hearing recordings in one client folder and (Pro) ask the whole folder one question — e.g. ‘Build a timeline’.
Example answer: 12 March — FIR registered (Source: judgment PDF, page 2). 4 June — bail hearing, next date fixed for 2 July (Source: Hearing recording, 4 June). 2 July — arguments on delay (Source: Hearing recording, 2 July).

PDF text extraction, translation and summarisation — FAQ
Can hearlog extract text from scanned PDF documents?
Yes, when the scan is clear. hearlog uses Google Gemini to read scanned PDFs — pages that are images rather than selectable text — such as government orders and legal notices you cannot copy from. Blurry or skewed scans give weaker results. This is a Pro feature, ₹299 a month.
What is the maximum PDF size?
hearlog accepts PDF files up to 15MB each. Many documents, reports and legal files fit within that. For a larger file, split the PDF into parts and upload each one separately; each part is saved as its own note, which you can keep together in a folder.
Does it support PDFs in Hindi and regional languages?
Yes. hearlog reads PDFs in Hindi (Devanagari), Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali and other Indian scripts, and keeps the original script. You can then translate the text to English or another of 50+ languages — useful for government documents and regional-language reports.
Can I summarise a long research paper or report?
Yes. After the text comes out, choose a summary style — Detailed for a fuller overview, Key Points for the main findings or Concise for a short brief. For a very long document, check that the text came through for every page before relying on the summary.
Does it work for legal documents and contracts?
Yes — it reads contracts, court orders and notices so you can organise and draft from them. It is not legal advice, and you should check the extracted text against the original document before using it anywhere legal. The text and summary are saved as a note in your account.
Is PDF text extraction free?
No — in the app, PDF text extraction is a Pro feature: ₹299 a month or ₹2,990 a year ($49 / $6.99 outside India). The free plan covers recording and uploads, 300 minutes a month with no card, plus transcripts, summaries, translation and exports. Pro adds PDF, image and YouTube text.
Can I translate a PDF from Hindi to English?
Yes. Extract the Hindi text, then click Translate and choose English. The original and the translation are saved together, so you can check one against the other. It suits government circulars, legal notices and regional-language reports where you need an English version to read.
What types of PDFs work best?
Text-based PDFs, where you can select and copy the text, give the cleanest results. Scanned PDFs work best when the scan is clear and in focus. Complex layouts, tables, very small text or poor scans may lose formatting or come out with errors, so check those against the original.
